The Golf Coaches Association of America announced today that Gopher senior Erik Van Rooyen has been named to the PING All-Region Team.

This is the third-consecutive season that Van Rooyen has been named to the team and the 10th time in the last 11 years that a Gopher player has been selected to the all-region team.

Van Rooyen completed his collegiate career at Minnesota by finishing in a tie for fifth place at the NCAA Columbus Regional. He finished as the top individual in the field but fell just one shot shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Virginia's Denny McCarthy ended up with the individual berth out of the regional since his Cavaliers did not qualify as a team for the championships.

Van Rooyen, who played in three-straight NCAA Regionals, completed the event at Ohio State's Scarlet Course with a three-day card of 215 (72-72-71). His finish was a career-best at an NCAA Regional, having tied for 19th place in 2012 and tied for 51st in 2011.

A native of Oudtshoorn, South Africa, Van Rooyen led the Gophers in the fall and spring seasons in stroke average at 73.53 and 72.71, respectively. He will leave Minnesota with a career stroke average of 73.51, the eighth-lowest in the history of Gopher golf.

A total of 155 players across six regions - Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West - earned all-region honors for 2013.
