Steenvoorden Wins Silver at World University Games

Former University of Minnesota swimmer Ashley Steenvoorden captured a silver medal in the women's 1500m freestyle Saturday at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia with a time of 16:07.89.

It marked the highest finish for the former Gopher at the Games and the highest finish for any Gopher at the event this year.

She advanced to the finals after posting a time of 16:28.94 in the preliminaries of the event Friday morning.

Fellow U.S. swimmer Stephanie Peacock won the women's 1500m freestyle with a new World University Games record time of 16:04.44.
