Incoming University of Minnesota men's golf freshman Jose Mendez won the Bob Jones Junior Championship on Thursday at Yorba Linda Country Club in Yorba Linda, Calif. The San Jose, Costa Rica, native has won two tournaments in the past week, claiming the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships title last Friday.



Mendez posted a 7-under total of 206 during the three rounds of the Bob Jones Junior. Entering the final day, he was tied for first, but pulled away and won by four strokes. Mendez started the tournament with a 71 and followed up with two rounds of 68.



The internationally ranked golfer's résumé also includes 2012 victories at the Costa Rica Match Play Championship and the National Junior Stroke Play Championship. He tied for 15th at the 2013 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in June. He will join the Golden Gophers for the 2013-14 season.
