Minnesota Earns Third Season Win

The University of Minnesota earned another 3-0 win as the Golden Gophers defeated Georgia State, 25-18, 25-12 and 25-21 as Minnesota improved to 3-0 this season. The Gophers play Samford tonight at 5 p.m. Free video will be available for the match.
Minnesota’s Daly Santana led the Gopher attackers when she had 15 kills in 35 swings and hit .371 in the match. Along with an ace, she had a double double with 14 digs and provided two block assists. Tori Dixon had eight kills and hit .538, while Adrianna Nora had seven. In all, 11 players saw action in the match. Alexandra Palmer had 37 assists, two aces and five digs. Paige Tapp started and led the Gophers with four block assists.
As a team, Minnesota hit .305 to Georgia State’s .107. Minnesota outblocked GSU, 7.5 to 2.0 and also held a 52-37 dig advantage. In the match, Minnesota had eight service aces.
Notable Stats
-Santana was just two shy of a career high. She had 17 against Nebraska last season
-Paige Tapp made her first collegiate start

Turning Points in the Match
Set 1: As the two teams were tied, 7-7, Minnesota pulled away when it went on a 5-1 run to separate the two teams. Dixon had two kills in that span, while Santana had one as GSU had two attack errors. GSU would put the deficit to 15-13, but Minnesota had back-to-back kills by Santana to push the lead to 17-13. The Gophers finished the set with GSU’s sixth service error of the set, followed by back-to-back kills by Santana.
Set 2: Minnesota jumped out to a 12-4 lead as it had kills from Dixon, Santana and Ashley Wittman, and a service ace from Santana. Minnesota continued to pour on the pressure when it led 19-6 on a block, a Palmer ace and a GSU attack error. Nora closed out the set with a kill, her fourth of the set.
Set 3: As the Gophers changed their lineup, Minnesota trailed 7-3. The Gophers, however, would tie the set at 10 on a Karlie Hauer kill. The two teams would tie the set 10 times, including at the 20-20 mark. Minnesota, however, would have a block from Clelia De Felice and Santana, followed by two attack errors from GSU. After Santana had an attack error at the 23-21 mark, GSU added another attack error before De Felice closed out the match with a service ace.
