University of Minnesota freshman Jose Mendez has captured his fourth consecutive Central American Junior Championships title. He also helped Costa Rica win the team title at Nejapa Golf & Country Club in Managua, Nicaragua.

Mendez won the tournament by two strokes. He also took the individual title in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

In his first fall season with the Gophers, Mendez led the team with a 73.35 stroke average. All 17 of his rounds counted toward the team score, and he posted two individual top-10 finishes.

The Gophers will start the spring season at the Big Ten Match Play Championships in Bradenton, Fla., on Feb. 14-15.
