Travel Advisory: Road Closures in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS – Fans traveling to the University of Minnesota campus for Gopher men's hockey and women's hockey, soccer and softball this weekend should be aware of road closures in northeast Minneapolis.
Motorists traveling southbound on Interstate 35W in northeast Minneapolis will encounter a detour Oct. 3-6, weather permitting. Southbound I-35W from Highway 280 in Roseville to 4th Street SE in Minneapolis will close Friday, Oct. 3 at 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6.
Southbound I-35W traffic will be detoured to southbound Highway 280 and westbound I-94. Access to eastbound Highway 36 from southbound I-35W will remain open. Motorists also will be able to access southbound I-35W from 4th Street SE/University Avenue.
Motorists intending to access southbound I-35W from westbound Highway 36 will be detoured to southbound Highway 280 and westbound I-94.

Four Gopher teams are in action at home this weekend as Gopher women's hockey plays at home both Friday and Saturday nights. No. 1 Minnesota hosts Penn State at 7 p.m. Friday and faces Boston University at 7 p.m. Saturday. The season-opening weekend at Ridder Arena also includes St. Cloud State taking on BU at 4 p.m. Friday and the Huskies facing the Nittany Lions at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Meanwhile, the top-ranked Gopher men's hockey team also opens the 2014-15 season this weekend with an exhibition game at Mariucci Arena against the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. Game time is set for 7 p.m. CT Saturday night.
Gopher soccer and softball are also in action at home this weekend. The Gophers will return to Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium to host Big Ten Conference front runner Penn State at 7 p.m. Friday evening before squaring up against Ohio State at 1 p.m. Sunday. Softball continues fall play Friday at home against St. Cloud State in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
