Gophers Finish Eighth at MacKenzie Invite

Junior Jon DuToit carded the Gophers' lowest score of the day, a 72, to finish one stroke behind Mendez in a tie for 20th. His score of 214 was his best of the fall, as was his place. Sophomore Matt Rachey also turned in his best score and finish of the fall, tying for 30th at 4-over. He shot a 73 on Tuesday.
A pair of freshmen rounded out the Gophers' lineup. Riley Johnson (+7), playing in his first tournament as a team scorer, tied for 44th. Rúnar Arnorsson (+8) scored on the first two days of the MacKenzie, but finished with a 79 on Tuesday and tied for 52nd.
Minnesota's last fall tournament will be Oct. 27-28, when the Gophers travel to the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas.
Gopher Scores - Meadow Club (Par 71, 6,734 yards)
The University of Minnesota men's golf team finished eighth at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif., ending Tuesday with an 8-over score of 860. It was the Golden Gophers' lowest combined score and score to par so far this fall.
Sophomore Jose Mendez led the team with a tie for 15th. He shot a 3-over 74 in the final 18 to finish at even for the tournament. He has finished in the top 20 of all four events this fall, and in his last 12 events dating back to the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate, Oct. 20-21.
