MINNEAPOLIS - The No. 20 Golden Gopher women's cross country team will host Jack's Twilight Run at Les Bolstad Golf Course this Saturday. The 6K race is open to the public and is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
About Jack's Twilight Run
This year marks the seventh annual running of Jack's Twilight Run. The 6K run honors the late Minnesota equipment manager Jack Johnson. Johnson will always be a part of the Minnesota women's cross country and track programs. After serving as the Golden Gophers' equipment manager for over three decades, Johnson passed away in February 2006 after a battle with cancer.
Participation in the race is free, but donations are encouraged. A Jack's Run hat will be given to those donating $20 or more. All proceeds from the race go toward the Jack Johnson Scholarship. The race is open to the public with same-day registration only.
Last Time Out: Wisconsin adidas Invite & Tori Neubauer Invitational
The top four Gophers posted career-best times led by redshirt junior Liz Berkholtz in 20:34 for 38th overall as the Gophers finished 15th at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational last Friday. Berkholtz was followed by fellow redshirt juniors Becca Dyson, who finished 61st overall in 20:47, and Kaila Urick, who finished in 21:02 for 81st place. Redshirt freshman Danielle Anderson also ran her career-best 6K time, posting a time of 21:24 for 118th place as the fourth Gopher.
At the Tori Neubauer Invitational last Saturday, the Gophers were led by graduate student Marnie Kinnaird in 24th place. All seven Golden Gophers ran season-best times while racing at UW-La Crosse. Kinnaird dropped over 40 seconds off her previous season best clocking a time of 23:01.24. Redshirt sophomore Melissa Cabak ran 23:12.32 for 36th overall and redshirt junior Hannah Trasser finished in 23:23.06 for 44th overall to round out the Gophers' top three.
USTFCCCA Rankings: Gophers Climb to No. 20
Minnesota climbed six spots to No. 20 in the nation in this week's USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll. The Gophers secured their highest national ranking of the season after defeating eight ranked teams at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational last weekend.
No. 1 Michigan State took over the top ranking as previously top-ranked Michigan fell to No. 4. No. 2 Georgetown, No. 3 Oregon and No. 5 Arkansas round out the top five teams.
2013 Jack's Twilight Run Rewind
Last year, Haley Johnson led the Gophers at Jack's Twilight Run, finishing in 22:00.5. Ashlie Decker ran unattached and posted a time of 21:48.3 as the top female. Of the 63 participants, the overall finisher was Mike Reneau of the Twin Cities Track Club in 18:46.6.
