The Gophers are fresh off their win against Arizona State and are excited for the upcoming season. Perhaps most excited, are the seniors entering their fourth year of competition for the Maroon and Gold. Every Sunday, we will be featuring a member of the swimming and diving class of 2015.
Gopher Sports: Why did you decide to attend the University of Minnesota?
Christie Clarke: I loved everything about the campus and the team. When I first came on a recruiting trip, I knew right away that I could call Minnesota home.
GS: What is your most memorable swimming moment?
CC: Every trip with the team is memorable; we all have such a wonderful time together and never stop laughing. My favorite part about swim meets is when we are stretching together because can relax and be ourselves.
GS: What is your favorite part of being a Golden Gopher?
CC: My teammates. I don't know what I would do without them in my life. You truly become a family when you are on a team here at the University of Minnesota.
GS: What is your favorite pre-race song?
CC: Right now my favorite song is "Shut up and Dance", but I it doesn't matter what song we listen to when we are stretching before a meet. Somehow we all find a way to dance around and have fun.
GS: What is the best advice you have received from one of the coaches at Minnesota?
CC: Assistant coach Ryan Purdy has given me so much advice throughout my time here. The best advice he has given me is to make sure we have fun with the sport, and to just keep love what we are doing. He has made every practice fun and always gives our group a good laugh!
GS: What is your dream job?
CC: I want to go to law school once I am done with my undergraduate degree and done teaching for the two years I am in the program "Teach for America".
GS: What is your favorite post-meet meal?
CC: Mesa Pizza
GS: Do you have any other hobbies outside of swimming/diving?
CC: My favorite thing to do outside of swimming is going out to the ocean and fishing with my dad.
GS: What do you plan on doing after graduation?
CC: I am actually going back to New Jersey because I got accepted into the program called "Teach for America". I will be teaching in an inner-city school for two years. After that, my goal is to attend law school somewhere on the east coast so I can be by my family.
GS: Want to give a shout out to anyone?
CC: To my parents and my three brothers for always being there for me, supporting every decision I make and showing me unconditional love. Also, the senior class. They have given me the best four years of my life.
