Gold swept the weekend to take a 3-1 lead over Maroon in the Steak 'n' Beans series. The Gold squad won 5-2 on Friday and 7-1 on Saturday at Siebert Field.

Friday's game started with back-to-back Gold doubles from Dan Motl and Alex Boxwell. Boxwell scored on an RBI single by Tyler Hanson to give the team a 2-0 lead in the first.

Troy Traxler's leadoff home run and three consecutive singles by Matt Fiedler, Michael Handel and Tony Skjefte tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. But Gold's pitchers-Hanson, Ben Meyer and Lance Thonvold-would not allow any Maroon runs during the last six innings. Meyer struck out five batters.

Gold reclaimed the lead in the third. Jordan Smith drew a leadoff walk, and Matt Halorran and Hanson followed with singles. Smith scored on a throwing error after stealing third, while Hanson hit Halloran home for a 4-3 lead. Toby Hanson's RBI triple in the fifth scored Tyler Hanson to add a run for Gold.

Fiedler and Chris Schaaf each had two hits for Maroon. Fiedler, Jordan Jess and Tim Shannon pitched. Fiedler struck out five.

In Saturday's contest, Toby Hanson led the way for Gold with five RBIs and his second home run of the fall. He drove in one run with a single in the first, added another on a sacrifice fly in the fifth and hit a three-run blast in the sixth.

Also for Gold, Smith went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Tyler Hanson batted 2-for-4. Fred Manke, Lucas Gilbreath and Toby Anderson pitched. Gilbreath struck out five, and he and Anderson did not allow any runs.

Traxler scored Maroon's lone run in the first on an error. Skjefte hit a double that inning. Reggie Meyer, Cody Campbell, Brian Glowicki and Joe Martinson pitched for the Maroon squad on Saturday.
