Kierra Smith is a key breaststroke swimmer for the Golden Gophers

Smith Named B1G Swimmer of the Week

The Big Ten Conference weekly awards were announced today. Junior Kierra Smith was awarded as B1G Swimmer of the Week after her performances against Arizona State this past weekend.

Smith placed first in each of the three event she competed in against the Sun Devils. Smith along with Tori Simenec, Rebecca Weiland and Lauren Votava took first in the 400 medley relay, finishing with a time of 3:43.40. B1G Champion Kierra Smith took first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.11. The junior also claimed the gold in her best event, the 200 breast with a time of 2:12.66. Her 200 breast time collected an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

This award marks the fourth of Smith's career at Minnesota. She was last named Swimmer of the Week on November 13, 2014
