Smith, Zeiger Pick Up B1G Weekly Accolades

The Big Ten Conference weekly awards were announced today with junior Kierra Smith selected as B1G Swimmer of the Week and Brooke Zeiger named B1G Co-Freshmen of the Week. These accolades were awarded after their performance at the 2014 Arena Grand Prix at Minneapolis.
Smith picked up to first-place finishes in the 200 breast (2:05.12) and 400 medley relay (3:37.42), along with a third in the 100 breast (59.68) and ninth in the 200 IM (1:59.87). Recorded NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the 100 breast and 200 IM, and an automatic qualifying time in the 200 breast. Her 200 breast time ranks her the fastest in the nation. The time of 2:05.12 also broke the Minnesota school. A 59.68 in the 100 breast has her ranked seventh in the nation. This is the fifth Swimmer of the Week award for Smith's career.
Zeiger earned her second Freshman of the Week honor. She finished second in the 500 freestyle (4:39.50), fourth in the 400 IM (4:09.42), sixth in the 200 back (1:58.84) and eighth in the 200 IM (2:00.15) at the 2014 Arena Grand Prix at Minneapolis, all NCAA provisional qualifying marks. Her 500 freestyle time is currently ranked third in the nation, and her 400 IM time is currently ranked second.
