Three weeks removed from its last dual but fresh off a team title and a pair of individual championships at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, No. 1 Minnesota hosted No. 18 Northwestern last Thursday at the Sports Pavilion. After quickly building a 12-0 lead over the Wildcats, the Gophers held on to take the dual, 21-19.

After a forfeit at 174 - the first of three on the evening - gave Minnesota a quick lead, No. 11 Breff Pfarr and No. 2 Scott Schiller posted decisions that pushed the Gopher advantage to 12-0. Northwestern evened the dual over the next three matches before No. 4 Nick Dardanes put Minnesota back on top - 15-12 - with a decision at 141. After the Wildcats again pulled even, this time at 15-15, Minnesota took advantage of a forfeit at 157 to go up six points, a lead that would hold up in the 21-19 victory.

Minnesota returns to action from the fiftieth state - Hawaii - on Dec. 30 when it competes in the inaugural Aloha Open against No. 20 Oregon State, Oklahoma and American. That event will be available to stream on Flowrestling.org (stream requires a FloPRO subscription) and updates will be provided throughout all Gopher matches on the Gopher Wrestling Twitter feed.
