MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota (11-1) women's basketball team opens Big Ten Conference play Monday night with an 8 p.m. showdown against No. 12/14 Nebraska (10-1) at Williams Arena. The contest will be broadcast live on BTN, with Eric Collins and Brenda VanLengen on the call. The Gophers, who top the league standings heading into the contest, will welcome former Minnesota great Lindsay Whalen to the Barn Monday night. She will be signing autographs prior to tipoff and will be honored on court during the game.

Minnesota's 11-1 record to start the Marlene Stollings era is its best since the 2003-04 season, when it started the season with a 15-1 record on its way to making a magical run to the Final Four. It also marks the second-best start for a first-year head women's basketball coach at Minnesota. The Maroon and Gold is riding a seven-game winning streak and has won 10-straight games at Williams Arena dating back to last season, which includes six-straight home contests in 2014-15.

The Gophers are coming off two wins in the Subway Classic against Liberty and Central Michigan last weekend at Williams Arena, with sophomore Amanda Zahui B. being named the Most Valuable Player of the event after averaging 22.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 6.0 blocks per game. For her play during the classic, Zahui B. was named to the Big Ten's Weekly Honor Roll.

With eight double-doubles on the year, including two during the Subway Classic, Zahui B. currently ranks third nationally in the category. She also fifth in blocks per game, 14th in defensive rebounds per game, 16th in field goal percentage and 28th in rebounds per game. Senior Shae Kelley ranks 28th with five double-doubles and 71st in field goal percentage, while Shayne Mullaney ranks 41st in assists per game nationally.

Minnesota and Nebraska will be meeting for the 17th time on Monday night, with the Huskers holding a 10-6 advantage in the all-time series. Though Nebraska has won the last four meetings between the two squads, including an 80-67 win in the second round of last year's Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind., the Gophers hold a 4-1 advantage when hosting the Huskers in Minneapolis.
