University of Minnesota rowing coach Wendy Davis announced Tuesday that the Gophers have signed six rowers to National Letters of Intent for the 2015-16 season.

The newest additions to the Golden Gophers include: Olivia Zoner, Lizsy Hiebel, Katrina Hetico, Melissa Foster, Rylie Wargo and Claire Platt.

Zoner (Long Lake, Minn) and Hiebel (Minnetonka, Minn) are the two in-state signees for the Gophers this year. Zoner, who attends Orono High School, plans to major in civil engineering and rows for Long Lake Rowing Crew. Hiebel, who attends Minnetonka High School, plans to major in kinesiology and is a member of the Minnetonka Honor Society. Hiebel follows in the footsteps of current Minnesota rowers, Catherine Ahrens and Meredith Kelly, who were coached by Rebecca Newman at Minnetonka High School.

The Gophers reached across the border to secure commitments from Hetico (Madison, Wisc) and Wargo (Pulaski, Wisc). Hetico comes from West High School in Madison, Wisc and plans to major in biomedical engineering. Hetico is a member of the National Honors Society and rows for the Camp Randall Rowing Club. Wargo is a student at Pulaski High School in Pulaski, Wisc and plans to major in biology. The daughter of Tracey and Tom, Wargo is a member of the National Honors Society and plays basketball, volleyball, and track at Pulaski High School.

Minnesota rounded out its recruiting class with commitments from Foster (Cupertino, Cali) and Platt (Grosse Point, Mich). Foster attends Monta Vista High School, where she plays field hockey. Foster will graduate in 2015, and plans to major in kinesiology at Minnesota. Platt, who attends Gross Point South High School, has three years of rowing experience.

"They have a great combination of experience, coupled with raw talent," Coach Davis said. "We look forward to them contributing next fall."
