Gopher Sports: Why did you decide to attend the University of Minnesota?

Katie Anton: As soon as I set foot on campus I felt like this was where I was supposed to be. The team is incredible and the academics at the U were exactly what I was looking for. Also, Minneapolis is close enough to home that my family can come up and watch me swim during the season quite a bit!

GS: What is your most memorable swimming/diving moment?

KA: Hands down my favorite memory was winning the B1G Championships my freshman year. It was the most intense meet I have ever been at. Everyone on the team swam lights out fast and we surprised so many people!

GS: What is your favorite part of being a Golden Gopher?

KA: I honestly love EVERYTHING about being a gopher! If I HAD to pick my absolute favorite thing, it would have to be the team. I don't know what I would do without them!

GS: What is your favorite pre-race song?

KA: Firework by Katy Perry... actually, any Katy Perry song.

GS: What is the best advice you have received from one of the coaches at Minnesota?

KA: During my junior season I faced some adversity with my swimming, and coach Terry was extremely supportive through everything. She would always tell me to take it a day at a time and to not get too caught up in one bad day/week. Without her and the team, I don't know if I would still be swimming right now.

GS: What is your dream job?

KA: Ultimately, I would love to obtain a Ph.D in chemistry become a professor at a large research institution.

GS: What is your favorite post-meet meal?

KA: Beach Club from Jimmy Johns

GS: Do you have any other hobbies outside of swimming/diving?

KA: I love playing with my cat Stella, hanging with my buddies and learning about space!

GS: What do you plan on doing after graduation?

KA: I am applying for grad school in chemistry as well as interviewing for a few different industry research positions in polymer chemistry.

GS: Want to give a shout out to anyone?

KA: I want to give a shout out to my parents, Alex and Pegi and my little brother Christian for their unconditional love and support in all aspects of my life!
