MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Gopher Hockey freshman Leon Bristedt has been named to Sweden's preliminary camp roster for the upcoming 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, the team announced on Monday morning.

A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Bristedt is the third Gopher to earn a camp invite this season along with Hudson Fasching and Ryan Collins, who will compete for roster spots on the U.S. squad. The U.S. and Sweden are scheduled to play a pre-tournament game on Dec. 23 at the Rogers K-Rock Centre in Kingston, Ontario.

Bristedt brings considerable international experience into camp, having already competed at the 2013 IIHF U-18 World Junior Championship with three goals and an assist in five games. He also tallied three assists at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial and led all players with seven goals and an assist in six games at the 2012 World Hockey Challenge. Prior to joining the Gophers, Bristedt spent three seasons with the Linkoping organization in Sweden and led the SuperElit league with 60 points in 43 games last season while also sharing the league-goal scoring title with 32 goals. The forward has four points (two goals, two assists) in 12 games this year for Minnesota.

The 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship is scheduled to begin Dec. 26 with the gold medal game being played on Jan. 5. The event will be co-hosted in Toronto and Montreal with Group A comprised of the U.S., Canada, Finland, Germany and Slovakia. Group B features the Czech Republic, Denmark, Russia, Switzerland and Sweden.

Gopher Hockey has been represented at 37 of 38 IIHF World Junior Championships since the inaugural event in 1977 including 22-straight World Junior Championships since 1993.

Minnesota returns to action in 2015 with the 24th Annual Mariucci Classic on Jan. 2-3. Joining the Gophers in the holiday tournament will be Merrimack, UMass-Lowell and RIT.
