MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota women's basketball team hits the road for the final time in 2014 and in non-conference play as it is set to take on North Dakota Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Grand Forks, N.D. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports North Plus, while fans can listen to the Gopher Women's Basketball radio team of Corbu Stathes and Lynnette Sjoquist on KBEM Jazz 88.5 FM.
THE OPENING TIP - QUICK NOTES
• Live stats will be available on Gophersports.com and live updates can be found on the Gophers' official twitter page - @GophersWBB.
• The Gophers enter the contest with an 8-1 record on the season following a thrilling 88-86 overtime victory against Butler Sunday night.
• With the win over the Bulldogs, Minnesota extended its winning streak this season to four games and its home winning streak to eight games, dating back to last season.
• North Dakota welcomes the Maroon and Gold to the Betty Engelstead Sioux Center with a 7-1 overall record following a 90-87 overtime win against rival North Dakota State on the road.
• After dropping its season-opening contest at Colorado, UND comes into Wednesday's contest having won seven-straight games.
• Minnesota is 2-1 in the all-time series against North Dakota, picking up a 46-44 victory at Williams Arena last season, in a game that Rachel Banham missed due to injury, in the teams' last meeting.
• The Gophers are receiving six votes in this week's Associated Press Top-25 Poll, up four votes from last week.
• Rachel Banham not only made the game-tying three-pointer to send the Gophers' game against Butler into overtime on Sunday, but the senior also became Minnesota's career leader in three-point field goals made with 233 career triples. She surpassed Shannon Schonrock (2002-06), who held the previous mark of 230 three-pointers.
• After scoring 35 against the Bulldogs, Banham moved up to No. 30 in the NCAA Rankings this week with a 20.0 points per game average. She is one of three Gophers to be ranked this week in the standings.
• Amanda Zahui B., who has tallied five or more blocks in five games this season, currently ranks fifth in the NCAA with a 3.67 blocks per game average. She also ranks seventh in double-doubles and 24th in field goal percentage.
• Thanks in large part to Zahui's defensive efforts, the Gophers rank seventh nationally in blocks per game.
• Rachel Banham continues to close in on Lindsay Whalen's Minnesota career scoring record of 2,285 points, as she is now just 113 points away from becoming the Gophers' all-time leading scorer.
• After averaging 28.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in two wins last week, Rachel Banham was named to the B1G Player of the Week Honor Roll for the first time this season and second time of her career.
• UP NEXT: Minnesota concludes non-conference action when they host Liberty, Central Michigan and No. 1/1 South Carolina in the Subway Classic at Williams Arena Dec. 20-21.
