MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - The U. S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association honored Minnesota senior Jon Lehman as the 2014 USTFCCCA Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year this week as the Gophers prepare for the upcoming NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships later this week in New Mexico.

A native of Coon Rapids, Minn., Lehman set the school record in the weight throw earlier this year at the Snowshoe Open with his throw of 22.98 meters (75-05 ft.) The mark ranks third in the NCAA this season.

The senior captain for the Gophers has four individual wins this season - the Snowshoe Open, the Bill Bergan Invitational, the Iowa State Classic and the Northwest Open.

The Second Team All-Big Ten honoree finished second in the weight throw at the conference meet earlier this month with a toss of 22.68 meters (74-05 ft.) and will compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend in Albuquerque, N.M.

USTFCCCA award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches.
