Gophers Sweep Alabama on Sunday

The University of Minnesota women's rowing team swept Alabama Sunday morning to conclude the two-day Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational in Oak Ridge, Tenn. During the event, the Golden Gophers won nine of its last 10 races, which included four wins over West Virginia in the afternoon session Saturday.
"The student-athletes stayed true to our goals of keeping low stroke rates in order to keep the technique correct throughout the races," head coach Wendy Davis said. "I was very pleased to see the discipline within each boat and we will absolutely build off these races for the rest of the week and into the season."
The 1V8 got things started for Minnesota, as it defeated Alabama by over 22 seconds with a time of 7:02.20. The 1V4 clocked in ahead of the Crimson Tide in the next race, posting a time of 8:07.00. The 2V8 concluded its race in 7:05.60, and the 2V4 and 3V4 finished out the morning with back-to-back wins.
The Gophers are back in action March 23 when they travel to Knoxville for a dual against Tennessee.
