Gophers Win Three at Boston Challenge

The University of Minnesota women's rowing team placed first in three of its five races against Dartmouth and Rutgers on the first day of the Boston Challenge Saturday morning on the Charles River.
The First Varsity Eight finished second to Dartmouth by just four seconds in the opening event of the day with a time of 7:16.0, but crossed 23.2 seconds ahead of third-place Rutgers, who finished in 7:43.2.
Following the first race of the morning, the Gophers won three-straight events, including the Second Varsity Eight, First Varsity Four and First Novice Eight boats.
The 2V8 finished 4.5 seconds ahead of Dartmouth, while the 1V4 and 1N8 each won their races by over 20 seconds.
The Second Novice Eight placed second in the final race of the day behind Penn, but ahead of Boston.
Minnesota concludes competition at the Boston Challenge Sunday against Boston University and Syracuse, with the first event scheduled to get underway at 7:00 a.m. CT.
