The University of Minnesota rowing team heads to the 2014 Big Ten Championships on Sunday, May 18, in Indianapolis, Ind. The Golden Gophers will compete at Eagle Creek Park as the Indianapolis Rowing Center hosts the event. The schedule of events for the Big Ten Championships are as follows (weather permitting):

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT
The 2014 Big Ten Championships features a seven-lane course that has been established to see who can sprint to the finish line first. The 2014 championships will be held in Indianapolis, Ind., for the fourth-straight year. Minnesota hosted the Big Ten Championships once in 2006 when it finished second overall.

GOPHERS' SEEDINGS
Minnesota's first varsity eight is seeded sixth overall for the Big Ten Championships on Sunday. The second varsity eight, first varsity four and first novice eight also earned the No. 6 seeds and will compete in Lane 1. The second varsity four and second novice eight are seeded fifth and the third varsity four earned the No. 4 seed. Complete list of seedings and lanes for the Gophers are listed below:

BIG TEN POINT SYSTEM
The Big Ten Championship is based on a point system. Each team will earn points by its placing in an event. The First Varsity Eight will receive the most points. The winner of the 1V8 race will earn 63 points, followed by the second-place team with 54 points and so on. The full breakdown of points is listed below:

BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS ON BTN
The Big Ten Network will broadcast the 2014 Big Ten Rowing Championships on Sunday, May 25 at 12:00 p.m. CT. The 2014 season marks the seventh year of the Big Ten Network, broadcasting all conference championships and a variety of Big Ten sports.

2013 BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP
The University of Minnesota rowing team placed fifth at the 2013 Big Ten Rowing Championships with 72 total team points at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind. Cassie Drozynski and Christine Beauparlant each earned spots on All-Big Ten teams, with Drozynski garnering first team accolades and Beauparlant being named to the second team. Also earning recognition was Sarah Sobek, who was Minnesota's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Ohio State won its fourth Big Ten title with 160 points, a new championships record, on the strength of five first-place finishes. The Buckeyes tallied wins in the first varsity eight, second varsity eight, first varsity four, third varsity four and first novice eight. Michigan followed in second with 135 points and Wisconsin finished third with 134 points. The Gophers' second varsity eight was the top finisher on the day for Minnesota, as it notched a fourth-place finish.

GOPHERS' HISTORY AT BIG TENS
Minnesota started competition in the Big Ten Championships back in 2001 when it became a varsity program. Minnesota won its first Big Ten Championship in 2007, winning four of six races to score 150 points. Michigan has the most Big Ten titles with five, followed by Ohio State with four, Michigan State with three and the Gophers and Wisconsin with one. Here's a breakdown of the Gopher team finishes:

MINNESOTA'S BIG TEN EVENT CHAMPIONS
Dating back to its start in the conference Minnesota has had 10 event champions since 2001. Although the Gophers haven't won a First Varsity Eight, the Second Varsity Eight walked away with a title championship in 2007. It was the same year the Gophers won the national title in the 2V8 at the NCAA Championships in Tennessee. The Gophers have also won two events in the Varsity Four (2006 and 2007) and three in the Second Varsity Four (2006, 2007 and 2010). The Gophers' novice boats have flourished as well, winning three in the 1N8 (2004, 2005 and 2007), while another one in the 2N8 (2006).
