Seven Gophers Named CRCA Scholar Athletes

The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) today announced the scholar athletes for the 2014 season, with the University of Minnesota rowing team having seven student-athletes meet the criteria. Kylie Andersen, Jessica Flakne, Chelsea Miller, Kersten Schwanz, Sarah Sobek, Amy VanHeel and Katherine Windsor were each named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes.
It was the third honor for Sobek (2012, 2013, 2014) and Windsor (2012, 2013, 2014), while Andersen, Flakne, Miller, Schwanz and VanHeel were named to the list for the first time in their careers.
In order to become a CRCA Scholar Athlete, rowers must meet the following criteria: meet all eligibility rules as defined by her institution, in her second, third or fourth year of eligibility, rowed in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75 percent of the current spring races or raced in a regional conference event and had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
