Gophers Swept by Wisconsin at Home

The University of Minnesota women's rowing team was swept by visiting Wisconsin on a pristine Sunday morning on Lake Phalen in St. Paul. A large crowd was on hand to take in the Big Ten border battle, which was the final event of the regular-season for the Golden Gophers.
The Badgers' No. 15-ranked First Varsity Eight boat reclaimed the "Burning Blade" trophy from Minnesota in the main event of the day, finishing first with a time of 6:11.80 in its race. The Gophers would cross 11.63 seconds later with a time of 6:23.43.
Minnesota's Second Varsity Eight boat had the strongest race of the day against the Badgers in the opening event, coming in second place by just under six seconds with a time of 6:28.75. Wisconsin won with a time of 6:22.90.
The Third Varsity Four and First Varsity Four boats also raced Wisconsin tough, as they each crossed less than 10 seconds after the Badgers in their respective events.
Minnesota will have two weeks to prepare for the Big Ten Rowing Championships, which are set to take place May 18 in Indianapolis, Ind.
