The University of Minnesota women's soccer team earned its third shutout of the season by defeating the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits, 2-0, at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium on Sunday afternoon. 

The Gophers, who dominated many aspects of the game, led the Jackrabbits in shots 21-7 to cap off the sweep of the weekend. The Gophers earned 11 cornerkicks throughout the 90 minute match, 6 of those coming in the first half alone. 

Eighteen Gophers saw playing time in today's match including freshmen Kellie McGahn, Hannah Holm, Maddie Gaffney and Julianna Gernes. Sophomores Rashida Beal and Tarah Hobbs were the only Gophers to play the entire 90 minutes. 

With the victory over the Jackrabbits, the Gophers improve to 3-1-0 on the season, with their only loss at the hands of No. 2 ranked Florida State University. 

The Gophers hit the road the next two weeks with their first stop in Oxford, Miss. to take on Ole Miss and Auburn next weekend. 

GOPHER STAND OUT PERFORMANCES

Freshman Sydney Squires scored the Gophers first goal in the 19th minute of play assisted by Josee Stiever. With the goal, Squires moves to first on the Minnesota leaderboard for goals. She also has an assist from the Gophers first game against Stetson. 

Sophomore Simone Kolander netted her third goal of the season thanks to the help of junior defender Haley Helverson in the 88th minute. The standout sophomore has 3 goals and 5 assists on the season, leading the Big Ten Conference in points. 

The Gophers defense and sophomore goalkeeper Tarah Hobbs earn their third shutout of the season with Minnesota's 2-0 victory on Sunday. Hobbs had three saves in the game, all in the first half, bringing her saves this season to 20.

Follow the Gophers on the road as they travel to Oxford, Miss. to take on Ole Miss and Auburn next weekend.
