The University of Minnesota women's soccer team (RV) fell in double overtime to Ole Miss (RV) at the Rebel Classic on Friday evening. Despite leading by two goals in the second half, the Gophers were unable to hold the Rebels who scored three unanswered goals from Olivia Harrison to seal the victory. With the loss, the Maroon and Gold fall to 3-2-0 on the season.

The Gophers trailed in shots (17-12) and corners (8-1) throughout the game but managed to score goals in the 55th minute and the 69th minute to gain a two goal lead on the Rebels. Ole Miss fired back as Olivia Harrision scored two goals within three minutes of each other to push the game into overtime.

During the first overtime period, neither team was able to score the golden goal but Harrison found a way to complete the hatrick and lift the Rebels over Gophers in the 107th minute.

The Maroon and Gold play Auburn on Sunday afternoon at noon CT in the final day of the Rebel Classic. Ole Miss and Memphis kick off at the completion of the first game on Sunday afternoon.

GOPHER STAND OUT PERFORMANCES
A deflection in the box gave sophomore Josee Stiever the opportunity to put the Gophers on the board in the 55th minute of play. Stiever's goal was her first of the season. Added to her two assists on the season, Stiever now has four points for the Maroon and Gold in 2014. She was named to the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch list during the preseason and has started each of the Gophers five games thus far. She played 89 minutes in this evening's match up and had two shots.

Sophomore Simone Kolander continued her successful season with a goal in the 69th minute assisted by Taylor Stainbrook. Simone has had a point in three of the five games this season. She is now tied with freshman Sydney Squires as they lead the team with four goals each. Kolander has 13 points for the Maroon and Gold.

Despite some bumps and bruises, sophomore goalkeeper Tarah Hobbs had seven saves on the evening and proved to be an asset to the Maroon and Gold as she punched away and saved numerous dangerous attempts from the Rebels. Hobbs now has 27 saves on the season.

OTHER NOTES:

  • Sophomore Ashley Pafko was awarded a yellow card in the 37th minute.
  • Four Gophers played the entire 107 minutes for the Maroon and Gold.
