Final Stats

The No. 17 University of Minnesota volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over Toledo, 25-13, 25-18, 25-18, tonight at the Rocket Invite in Toledo, Ohio. With the win, the Golden Gophers improve to 9-1 this season.

Minnesota was led by Sarah Wilhite, who had 14 kills as she hit .452. Daly Santana had 12 kills in 32 swings, while Adrianna Nora had 10 kills and hit .625. Hannah Tapp also had 10 kills, while Paige Tapp added a .833 hitting clip. As a team, Minnesota hit .402 to Toledo’s .168 and had 52 kills to Toledo's 35. 

First Set: Minnesota came out of the gate and hit .447 in the first set to take a 1-0 lead, 25-13. Wilhite hit .538 when she had seven kills in 13 attempts. After the two teams tied at 10-10, the Gophers rolled through the remainder of the set. Minnesota added four-straight points, capped off by a Hannah Tapp kill. After a Rocket kill, the Gophers started another run, this time by Wilhite. After he kill, she went to the service line and helped Minnesota to five points. In that span, she had two kills, Santana had a kill, while Handley and Hannah Tapp added a block. With a 20-11 lead, the Rockets earned a kill, but the Gophers would finish off the set on back-to-back blocks from Santana and Paige Tapp  for set point, while Tapp and Nora added a set win block.

Second Set:  Minnesota hit .342 to Toledo’s .162 to take a 2-0 lead and a 25-18 second set win. After the two teams tied at 13, Minnesota would take the lead for good on a Nora kill. The Gophers would go up 16-13 before Toledo good a timeout. The Gophers, however, would come out of the timeout with a Wilhite kill and later gained an 18-15 lead off a Hannah Tapp/Handley block. After Toledo closed the gap to 20-17, the Gophers had a kill from Paige Tapp for the 22nd point, a block by her and Handley for the 23rd point an, a kill from Handley for set point and a kill from Paige Tapp to go up, 25-18.

Third Set: The Gophers used a .417 efficiency to take the third set and the match, 25-18. Hannah Tapp, Nora and Wilhite all had four kills as Nora hit .667 in the set. Minnesota cushioned a lead when it received kills from Paige Tapp and Nora for an 11-6 lead. It forced Toledo to take a timeout, but the Gophers added another two kills from Nora and Tapp before Toledo stopped the run. The Gophers opened it up at 17-10 on a Wilhite kill, while Santana added a kill for a 19-12 lead. Hannah Tapp added a kill for a 22-15 lead. Minnesota finished off the match with a bad set from Toledo and an ace from Laura Caluori to improve to 9-1.
