Minnesota Finishes Fourth at Gopher Invite

The University of Minnesota men's golf team finished fourth at its Gopher Invitational to open the 2014-15 season. The Gophers turned in a 10-over-par 294 in Monday's final round to finish at 31 over.
Jose Mendez continued his steady play at Windsong Farm Golf Club, carding an even-par 71 in the final round. He finished tied for fifth at 2 over. Mendez and runner-up Gavin Green (New Mexico) played early off the 10th tee before departing for the World Team Amateur Championship in Japan.
Tyler Lowenstein played a strong final round to tie for ninth. His 71 on Monday kept him at 5 over for the tournament. Jon DuToit (+10) also notched a top-25 finish, coming in 22nd. Matt Rachey scored his lowest round of the tournament, a 74, to round out Monday's scoring.
Riley Johnson, playing as an individual, turned in a Minnesota-low 70 on Monday. He and RĂƒÂºnar Arnorsson, also playing as an individual, tied for 37th (+15).
Baylor (+10) entered the last round with a 10-shot lead and won the tournament by 16 strokes over second-place California. Victor Wiggins (-5) of Charlotte held his Day 1 lead to capture medalist honors by four strokes over Green.
