Meet Preview: Minnesota at Hawaii

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The annual training trip for swimmers is in full swing in Honolulu, Hawaii and the Gophers are ready to take on the University of Hawai'i and open 2015 competition at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex at 3:00 p.m. CT.
Minnesota and Hawai'i competed against each other last January, resulting in a "W" for both the Gopher men and women.
The Gopher men took the meet in a near sweep, winning 13 of 14 events with a final score of 171-87. Highlights of the meet included CJ Smith winning both the 500 and 100 free as well as Daryl Turner taking first in the 100 back and 100 free.
Similarly to the men, the Gopher women also won 13 of 14 events contested. The meet concluded with a score of 164-95. Both Kiera Janzen and Lauren Votava picked up two wins in the freestyle events. Janzen placed first in the 1000 and 500 free, while Votava took the 200 and 100 free.
Diving will not be contested, as the Gopher divers are on a training trip of their own in Beijing, China. Read the latest blog from senior Katy Etterman here.
IN THE RANKS
The latest rankings from the CSCAA (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) has the Gopher men ranked 23rd in the nation, and the Minnesota women tied for 12th with Auburn. The Gopher men have a 3-2 record with losses to #14 Wisconsin and #4 Florida, while the women remain undefeated with a record of 5-0.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS
The Gophers will head to Raleigh, North Carolina to take on N.C. State in a two-day dual. The meet will take place on January 23 and 24, more information to come.
