Doeden Leads Gopher at Cal

Justin Doeden tied for 26th as the University of Minnesota men's golf team finished ninth at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational. The Golden Gophers finished 8 under par as a team in 90-degree weather at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, California.
For the second time this season, junior transfer Doeden was the Gophers' top finisher. He went 7 under on Monday, with a 6-under 65 in the first round, and carded a 74 (+3) to close out the tournament 4 under overall.
Junior Grady Meyer (tied for 47th) had the Gophers' lowest score Tuesday with a 70, his second of the tournament. Minnesota turned in six under-par rounds and four even-par rounds of its 15 total in the tournament. Four of five Gophers had at least one under-par round.
Senior Jon DuToit was the Gophers' second finisher in a tie for 30th. He shot an even 70 in the third round.
Sophomore Charlie Duensing (tied for 44th) rounded out the Gophers' Tuesday scoring with a 75. Freshman Tom Vining tied for 80th.
Cal (-42) won its home tournament by 10 strokes over second-place Pepperdine and Arizona State. San Jose State's Cody Blick captured medalist honors at 17 under.
Up next: The Gophers will conclude the fall portion of the season at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas (Oct. 26-27).
