TRIA Named North Star College Cup Title Sponsor

MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) ââ'¬" The 2016 North Star College Cup will highlight Minnesota's top orthopaedic care organization along with the state's unrivaled passion for hockey as Bloomington-based TRIA has signed a two-year agreement to serve as the event's title sponsor.
The annual tournament, held for the third time in 2016, showcases Minnesota's five Division I hockey programs ââ'¬" Bemidji State, Minnesota, Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State and St. Cloud State ââ'¬" at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
"The North Star College Cup is a great opportunity for TRIA Orthopaedic Center to show our commitment to hockey players throughout the state," said Dr. Edward Craig, chief executive officer, TRIA Orthopaedic Center. "From youth players on the ponds to our college and pro competitors at the Xcel Energy Center, TRIA cares for athletes of all levels in the State of Hockey. We're proud to partner with Minnesota college hockey and bring another exciting North Star College Cup to St. Paul."
The third annual North Star College Cup will kick off on Saturday, Jan. 30 with Minnesota State and St. Cloud State facing off at 1 p.m. CT followed by Minnesota and defending tournament champion Bemidji State at 4 p.m. The second day of competition will take place on Sunday, Jan. 31 with the consolation game at 1 p.m. followed by the championship contest at 4 p.m.
Tickets for the 2016 North State College Cup go on sale to the public on Monday, Nov. 9 at 12 p.m. CT. Additional ticketing information will be released at a later date.
Now in its third year, the North Star College Cup has provided plenty of excitement for fans of all five Division I college hockey programs in Minnesota. The Gophers captured the inaugural title in 2014 in a dramatic shootout victory while the Beavers brought home the tournament title in 2015 after goalie Michael Bitzer stopped 54 of 55 shots over the weekend in route to tournament MVP honors.
