Gophers Awarded 6 B1G Weekly Honors

Minnesota swimming and diving collected all six weekly awards from the Big Ten Conference today following the Gophers' dual against the Florida Gators. Yu Zhou and Matt Barnard were honored as the Big Ten Divers of the Week for the second-straight week, while Samantha Harding and Nick Orf were selected as Big Ten Swimmers of the Week for the first time. Rookies Rachel Munson and Hunter Doerr were also tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Zhou swept the women's diving competition, taking home first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events with scores of 336.98 and 380.03, respectively. On the men's side, Barnard totaled 323.48 points for third in the 1-meter competition, and 416.10 points on 3-meter. These diving honors mark the fifth for Zhou and second for Barnard, each of their scores were NCAA Zone qualifying marks.

Harding tallied two gold finishes, sweeping the women's distance freestyle events for the second weekend in a row. Her time of 9:53.79 in the 1000-yard free currently ranks second in the nation, while her 4:52.00 in the 500 free is the sixth fastest in the country. Orf had an impressive first-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:49.77, ranking in the top 20 nationally. He also finished fifth in the 100 fly with a 50.27.

Rookie Munson recorded first-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke and 200 medley relay, as well as third-place in the 200 breast and sixth in the 200 IM. Munson's 1:02.81 in the 100 breast is currently ranked ninth in the nation, while the Gophers' 1:41.42 in the 200 medley relay is the sixth so far. She finished with times of 2:19.29 and 2:09.30 in the 200 breast and 200 IM, respectively. Doerr was a member of Minnesota's top 400 free relay placed first with a 3:00.80, which is currently the eighth fastest in the country, as well as the Gophers' 200 medley relay which took second (1:29.91), which currently ranks 11th in the nation. Doerr individually finished third in the 50 free (20.75) and sixth in the 100 free (46.92).

Minnesota will head to Madison, Wisconsin on Friday, Oct. 16, for a B1G border-battle against the Badgers. The meet is set to be contested at 6:00 p.m. CT at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium.
