Campbell Fisher (Suwanee, Ga.) has yet to feature in a competition for the Gophers, but the freshman is ready to make an impact. GopherSports sat down with Campbell to ask him a few questions.
GopherSports: What made you choose to come to the U?
Campbell Fisher: My mom is from New Ulm and she played tennis at Bemidji State. Coach Carlson was looking in the south so he came down there to watch me play three times. I felt comfortable up here. I wanted to play in a big division. It's a really good fit for me with the team and the coaching staff, and the practice facilities are great.
GS: What's the transition been like for you, not only to college but also moving to a new state?
CF: It's been good. It's definitely different, like everything. I've gotten used to it now. I'm so close to everybody. I've met a lot of other athletes. It's good. Today was a little cold, but the weather has been great besides that. It's been good though, I really like it so far.
GS: What's your favorite course you've played on?
CF: I played Muirfield in Scotland last summer and I played Carnoustie in Scotland too. I've played East Lake in Atlanta. I've been fortunate enough to play a lot of good courses. I played Hazeltine a couple weeks ago here, that was sweet. It's kind of hard to say. Probably Muirfield or Carnoustie in Scotland.
GS: Do you have any superstitions for when you're on the course?
CF: Not really. I always use a quarter to mark my golf ball. If I use something besides a quarter I get kind of superstitious. It's always heads up too. Besides that I try not to be superstitious.
GS: Who is your favorite pro golfer to watch?
CF: I really like Russell Henley and Brandt Snedeker. Russell Henley is from Georgia. I'm a fan of all the pros from Georgia. There's a lot of them, so I'm a fan of all those guys.
GS: What was your favorite Halloween costume you ever wore?
CF: I wore a Campbell's soup can one year because my name is Campbell. That was pretty cool. I'd say that.
GS: Since you're from Georgia, have you gotten any advice from your teammates on how to survive the winter in Minnesota?
CF: I'm actually about to shopping with Pete [Jones] and I'm going to buy some more winter clothes. We've got a lot of nice winter stuff from the golf team so I'm wearing that. It's going to be different. I'm kind of excited in a way to experience it. We'll see in a couple of months what I say about it. I guess I'm prepared, sort of.
