Final Stats

The No. 9 University of Minnesota volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over Iowa, tonight, in Iowa City, Iowa. The Golden Gophers won 25-17, 25-15, 27-25 to improve to 17-3 overall and 9-1 in the Big Ten Conference.

As a team, the Gophers hit .324 to Iowa's .147 and out blocked the Hawkeyes, 10-2. Daly Santana had 13 kills in 24 attempts to hit .458. Sarah Wilhite had 11 kills and hit .355, while Hannah Tapp and Molly Lohman each hit .353 in the match. Samantha Seliger-Swenson had a match-high 40 assists, and Dalianliz Rosado have 10 digs.

Minnesota is set to host Indiana, Wednesday night, at 7 p.m. The match is televised live on the Big Ten Network.

Set 1: The Gophers took a 1-0 lead off a 25-17 set win. After trailing 4-2, Minnesota took the lead for good at 5-4 off back-to-back blocks, a solo from Wilhite, followed by a Wilhite/Lohman combined block. Minnesota took a 12-8 lead off a Paige Tapp ace, which forced Iowa to call its first timeout of the set. The Gophers pushed the lead to 14-9. A Lohman kill put the Gophers up 17-10, followed by a Wilhite block for the 19-13 lead. As the Gophers held a 21-16 control, Minnesota finished off the set with back-to-back Santana kills, an Iowa attack error and another ace by Paige Tapp put the Gophers up a set.

Set 2: The Gophers utilized a 41 percent hitting efficiency in the second en route to a 25-15 set win. Minnesota opened the second set with a 6-2 lead, capped off with a kill from Wilhite. Minnesota later pushed the score to 9-5 off a Wilhite kill and 11-7 off a Santana kill. Minnesota led 15-9 with a Sarah Wilhite kill and 17-11 off a Paige Tapp kill. After a Hannah Tapp/Seliger-Swenson block and an Iowa attack error, the Hawkeyes called a timeout at 20-12. As a Santana kill put the Gophers up 22-13, Minnesota closed out the set with a Lohman kill for the 23rd point, a Hannah Tapp kill for set point and an Iowa attack error to go up, 2-0.

Set 3: As the two teams were tied at 7-7, Minnesota went on a 7-0 run to take a 14-7 lead. The Hawkeyes went on a 4-0 run to cut the Gopher lead to three, but Minnesota ended the run off a Paige Tapp kill for a 15-11 lead. A Santana/Lohman block put Minnesota up 18-13. Iowa went on a 4-1 run to cut the Gopher lead to 19-17, but Minnesota responded as Wilhite had a kill to push the lead to 20-17. The Hawkeyes pulled within one as the Gophers called a timeout. Iowa, however, came out of the break and tied the set at 21 off a kill. The two teams tied the set five times before Minnesota closed out the set 27-25 off a Wilhite kill and a Santana kill put away the match and a 3-0 win.
