Gopher Greats Compete in Tokyo

Minnesota's Kierra Smith and David Plummer wrapped competition at the 2015 FINA Swimming World Cup in Tokyo, Japan with medals for Canada and USA. Josh Hall also competed for the Philippines.

Smith finished the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:24.51 for the third-place spot on the podium. She also finished sixth in the 100-meter breast with a time of 1:08.30. Smith is taking the 2015-16 collegiate season off to train for a spot on Canada's Olympic Team. Minnesota alumnus Plummer (2008) picked up gold in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 24.58 - the world's fastest time this year. He also took home the bronze medal in the 100-meter back with a 53.39. In addition to being a captain for the University of Minnesota during his senior season, Plummer was named one of the captains for Team USA at this past summer's FINA World Championships.

2013 Gopher graduate Hall finished 19th in the 50-meter breast with a time of 28.69 and 45th in the 100-meter breast (1:04.22).
