Castanias Leads Gophers at UW-Eau Claire

COLFAX, Wis. - Emily Castanias and Molly Eastman led Minnesota with top-20 finishes as members of the Golden Gopher women's cross country team raced at the Blugold Invitational hosted by UW-Eau Claire Friday.
Castanias ran a season-best 22:35.9 to lead Minnesota and finish fourth overall. Eastman took 17th overall in a career-best 23:03.8, and Nicole Heitzman rounded out the Gophers' top-three finishers with a career-best 23:19.0 for 26th place overall.
In total, the Gophers recorded 19 season-best times, including 10 career-best 6K marks at Whitetail Golf Course.
Caitlin Dillon ran a career-best 23:24.5 as the fourth Gophers, and Violet Weibel narrowly missed her personal-best mark with a time of 23:36.2 as Minnesota's fifth finisher.
Melissa Cabak (season-best 23:39.8) and Delaney Sinnen (season-best 24:21.2) rounded out the Gophers' top seven in a field of 305 finishers.
Minnesota finished fourth in the team standings with 103 points behind UW-La Crosse (74 points), St. Olaf (83), and host UW-Eau Claire (93). Runners from seventeen teams competed.
Unattached Gophers Abby Kargol (22:39.2, seventh), Bailey Ness (23:12.8, 23rd), Ally Smith (23:59.6, 60th), and Megan Flanagan (24:26.9, 79th) also raced at the Blugold Invitational.
Twelve Gophers raced at the Greater Louisville Classic 5K in Louisville, Ky., this weekend as well. Minnesota is off from competition next weekend in preparation for the Wisconsin adidas Invitational and the Tori Neubauer Invitational the following weekend.
