Gophers Third, DuToit Second at Yale

A strong performance by senior Jon DuToit led the Golden Gophers to a third-place finish at the MacDonald cup. The Gophers posted a team score of 580 to earn their best finish of the young season.
DuToit earned a career-best second-place finish in the tournament with a team best 139 and was 1 under par. He led the Gophers in the second round, shooting a 67, which matched a career-best round total.
The Gophers and the other teams had to finish first round play on Saturday morning after rain suspended play Friday afternoon. The event was shortened to just two rounds in an attempt to beat the rain.
The Gophers ended the first round in a tie for fourth at 294. Junior Grady Meyer led the team in the first round with a 71, which was his best round of the year so far. Meyer finished with a 146 and tied for 17th.
Junior Justin Doeden followed up his top-10 finish at the Husky Invitational with another strong performance. He shot a 71 in the second round, which is the best single round of his career with the Gophers so far. He joined Meyer with a final score of 146 and a 17th place finish.
Three Gophers posted their best round on Saturday afternoon, including freshman Tom Vining who shot a 73. Vining finished tied for 34th and sophomore Rúnar Arnorsson finished tied for 54th.
Harvard won the competition with a team score of 568 (+8). Marco Iten of Stirling University (Scotland) was the top individual performer with a score of 138 (-2).
