Gopher Wrestling today announced that it will host the 2015 edition of its annual Coaches Clinic on Friday, Oct. 30 at the Bierman Field Athletic Building in Minneapolis. The clinic offers youth coaches professional instruction and best practices for teaching fundamentals and technique to young wrestlers. Attendance is open to all who are interested in participating.
"The thing that I enjoy about the clinic is interacting with high school coaches and listening to the things they have to say about both their programs and ours," said Minnesota Head Coach J Robinson. "We want to be a clearinghouse for technique and training in the state, so I think it's great that these coaches get a chance to see how we do things and interact with us so they can ask questions. It gives them an idea of what's going on inside our program instead of just seeing the finished product."
Instructors for this year's camp include Minnesota alum Dylan Ness, a two-time NCAA finalist, Big Ten champion and one of 10 Gopher wrestlers to leave the program as a four-time All-American. Joining Ness will be Chris Perry, two-time NCAA champ and three-time All-American. During his career at Oklahoma State, Perry also earned a silver medal at University Worlds. These two will be accompanied by Kane Thompson, who is entering his first season as the Gopher Wrestling strength coach after spending the last four years at Purdue. Thompson is a USA Wrestling Certified Sports Performance Coach.
Check-in on the day of the clinic will begin at noon at the Bierman building, followed by a welcome and introduction from Coach Robinson at 12:45. Perry will lead the group in technique clinics until 3:30, when attendees will observe a live practice in the Minnesota wrestling room. Following practice, Thompson will discuss strength training and Ness will lead the day's final technique session. The event will conclude with a social at Blarney's Pub and Grill in Dinkytown, located two blocks from the Bierman building.
Registration is now open for a fee of $100 ($115 if received after Oct. 23). Limited hotel rooms at the Days Inn Minneapolis are available at a discounted rate until Oct. 9 for out-of-town attendees.
Those interested in attending the clinic can register by printing off the attached form (located at the top of this page) and sending it to Minnesota Wrestling Events, P.O.
