No. 21 Gophers Take Third at Midwest Regional

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Liz Berkholtz and Haley Johnson earned All-Midwest Region honors to lead the No. 21 Golden Gopher women's cross country team to a third-place team finish at the 2015 NCAA Midwest Regional Friday afternoon.
Berkholtz picked up all-region honors for the second-straight year, pacing the Gophers in 11th overall in 20:36.9. Meanwhile, Johnson earned the first all-region award of her career with a career-best 20:38.3 for 13th place overall as Minnesota's second runner.
All five scoring Gophers finished among the top 40 as Kaila Urick took 27th in 21:03.7, followed by Madeline Strandemo in 34th (21:15.2) and Jamie Piepenburg in 40th (21:23.8).
No. 13 Oklahoma State won the team title with 51 points, placing all five scoring runners in the top 16. No. 16 Iowa State was seconds with 98 points, followed by No. 21 Minnesota with 125 points. Tulsa (151 points) finished fourth on a tiebreak ahead of host Kansas in fifth (151 points).
Emily Betz (21:39.6) and Tamara Gorman (21:52.2) also made their NCAA debuts for the Gophers, finishing 63rd and 76th, respectively.
Minnesota will await the at-large team selections to learn its NCAA Championship fate. The Gophers have advanced to 10-straight NCAA Championships. The at-large team and individual selections will be announced following the completion of all nine NCAA regional championships.
The top 31 teams in the nation will race at the 2015 NCAA Championship hosted by the University of Louisville at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park on Saturday, Nov. 21. The women's 6K race is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT, followed by the men's 10K race at 12 p.m. CT.
