Set Breakdown:
Set 1: The Gophers hit .281 to MSU's .222 to win 25-21. Minnesota opened up the first set with a 6-2 lead capped off with a Sarah Wilhite kill. After a MSU attack error, the Spartans called a timeout with an 8-3 Gopher lead. Michigan State cut the Gopher lead to 12-10, before Santana provided a kill, while MSU had a net violation to put the lead back to four at 14-10. MSU rallied back and pulled within 15-14 as the Gophers called a timeout. MSU again pulled within one at 20-19, but a Santana kill and a MSU attack error put the Gophers up, 22-19 as the Spartans called their second timeout. The Gophers, however, continued to close out the set when it came out of the MSU break with a Santana kill for the 23rd point, a Hannah Tapp kill and a MSU ball handling error to go up, 1-0.
Set 2: Minnesota committed just one attack error to hit .464 in the set, while it held MSU to just 0.32. The Gophers accomplished 14 kills in 28 attempts, and provided six blocks as MSU committed nine attack errors. Michigan State burned both of its timeouts by the 13-5 mark of the second set. After a Gopher block for the 7-5 lead, Wilhite went back to serve. Off Wilhite's serve rotation, the Gophers tacked on six-straight, including an ace, for a 13-5 lead. From there, the Gophers continued to push the lead. Santana added back-to-back kills for a 17-7 lead. After a Hannah Tapp kill for a 19-9 lead, Minnesota pushed the score to 22-12 off a Santana/Paige Tapp block. A Seliger-Swenson/H Tapp block put it at set point, while a MSU attack error put the Gophers up, 2-0.
Set 3: As the Gophers held a 6-5 lead, they went on a 3-0 run, capped off by a P Tapp/Seliger-Swenson block. Minnesota went up 12-8 off a Santana kill and 15-9 off a Spartan error. Michigan State responded with a four-point run to cut the lead to 15-14, but the Gophers put the lead back to 20-14. Lohman provided a kill for Minnesota's 21st point, while Paige Tapp added a kill for a 23-18 lead. As MSU pushed back and cut the lead to 23-20, Minnesota gained its last two points of the match on a MSU service error, while Seliger-Swenson added a kill for the final point.
