My Gymnastics Story: Rachel Cutler

The sport of gymnastics is no easy feat. The years of tough training both mentally and physically push gymnasts to their limits in order to succeed at the highest level. Gophersports.com sat down with the University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team to learn where each of these 14 women came from in order to call themselves Golden Gophers.
I would not be the person I am today without gymnastics. This sport has made me mentally tough, goal oriented and gave me the determination to push through any obstacle I had in life. It has taught me to set goals and to never stop pushing until I reach them. I've gained courage to do things that I never would have thought I'd have. The sport gave me opportunities that I would have never gotten. I've been able to do things and see things that a normal 18-year-old probably has never done. Every one of my competitive and driven qualities were built from gymnastics. It has also taught me how to still live a normal life even living a crazy one.
My favorite thing about gymnastics is just being able to do what I love. Being able to perform what I've worked my entire life for and getting to do that with friends I will never be able to replace. Knowing I've worked so hard to reach my goals and finally accomplishing them, is truly the best feeling in the world.
Even though I haven't been at the U of M for very long, I already feel so accepted into the team. I absolutely love every single person and couldn't be more thankful for already feeling apart of their family. Watching them compete last year made me so excited to be able to experience all of that with them this year. Words cannot describe how happy I am to be able to have joined the most amazing group of girls and be able to do what I love with them. I couldn't have made a better decision with choosing the U of M!
