As Minnesota rowing turns the page to the spring season, the seniors can reflect on the past three and a half years while preparing for their final season of competition. GopherSports.com caught up with senior Lisa Weeks who discussed her career as a Gopher rower and more.

GS: How have you grown as a rower since your freshman year?

LW: Rowing has taught me so much, not only the technique side of it, but the dedication and determination of the sport. When you truly give your 100% it is amazing what you can achieve

GS: What are your goals for your last spring season?

LW: My goals for this last spring season is do give my team more than my 100%. I want to help bring us to the NCAAs, but more than more I want us to do our best and leave the team with no regrets.

GS: What are your plans post graduation?

LW: My plan post-graduation is to continue my education in Physical Therapy School.

GS: What made you come to Minnesota?

LW: I came to Minnesota because it is a great school with friendly people and so many opportunities!

GS: What is your biggest accomplishment while on the team?

LW: My biggest accomplishment on the team is forming life-long relationships with my teammates. Coming to college I was not a very social person and rowing, being such a team sport, really showed me the beauty of a true friendship and just how amazing my teammates are and that no matter what I know they have my back.

GS: What are your favorite things to do outside rowing?

LW: Outside of rowing I love spending time outside just having fun. I also enjoy watching movies!

GS: What is your funniest memory while on the team?

LW: This team is nothing short of humorous. We all have a great sense of humor and love making others laugh. I cannot really think of just one funny moment, but some of the funniest times are when we have our annual Goldy Cup where we dress up in costumes and perform skits and then row. The skits are so amusing and keep everyone laughing!

GS: How are you preparing for the spring season?

LW: I am preparing for the spring season by staying motivated by having fitness goals in mind.

GS: What's something most people don't know about you?

LW: Something most people do not know about me is that I love to travel and have actually been in every single state within the continental US.

GS: What advice would you give novice rowers who are just learning the sport?

LW: My advice to novice rowers would be that this sport is so much more than you think. This sport truly pushes you both physically and mentally. It develops you into a person who is fearless and can truly push themselves farther than they thought possible. It teaches you how to be a teammate and in return gives you the best friendships you could ever ask for. It helps you learn who you are and helps you accept your mistakes, but worker harder to overcome them in the future. Rowing really does blossom you into a strong, devoted individual.
