Gophers in the Polls: December 9

The Gophers advanced in NCAA competition and set school records this past week as several programs remain among the nation's best. Below is a recap of each ranked program.

Women's Hockey - #3 (USCHO.com), #3 (USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine)
Last Week: Minnesota fell to Wisconsin, 3-2 in overtime and 3-1, on the road last weekend. The Gophers were swept for the first time since dropping a series on the road at Minnesota Duluth, falling 3-2 and 4-2, during the 2010-11 season (Oct. 29-30, 2010).
Coming Up: No. 3 Minnesota (15-3-0, 11-3-0 WCHA) faces St. Cloud State (8-8-2, 4-8-2-2 WCHA) in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women's Faceoff Classic this Friday at the Roseville Skating Center. Puck drop between the Gophers and Huskies is set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
Volleyball -- #4 (AVCA), #2 (NCAA RPI)
Last Week: Minnesota earned two wins in the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Tournament at home last weekend, sweeping both Jackson State and Marquette.
Coming Up: The Gophers will compete in the Sweet Sixteen at the Des Moines Regional this Friday, facing Illinois at 5:30 p.m.
Men's Gymnastics - #8
Coming Up: The Gophers will host their annual Maroon and Gold meet on Dec. 12 with action beginning at 2:00 p.m. The meet, usually held at Cooke Hall, will take place in the Sports Pavilion. The regular-season will open on Sunday, Jan. 17, as Minnesota will travel to the Windy City Invitational in Chicago, Ill.
Women's Swimming & Diving - #18
Last Week: The Gophers won a total of 15 events at the Jean K. Freeman Invitational, including two wins for Allison Schumacher in the 100 free and 100 fly.
Coming Up: The Gopher divers will compete at the Georgia Invite Jan. 3-5. The swimmers will go on their annual training trip, including a dual against Hawai'i on Jan. 9.
Wrestling - #18 (Intermat Tournament), #20 (Intermat Dual)
Last Week: Minnesota wrapped up two days of wrestling in Las Vegas with a third-place finish at the Cliff Keen Invitational against a field that included 12 ranked teams, finishing behind only Missouri and Cornell in the team race.
Coming Up: The Gophers will host a dual against Big Ten foe Indiana on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Pavilion.
Men's Swimming & Diving - #20
Last Week: Minnesota captured first place in every event, highlighted by school-record performances on the diving board from Matt Barnard.
Coming Up: The Gopher divers will compete at the Georgia Invite Jan. 3-5. The swimmers will go on their annual training trip, including a dual against Hawai'i on Jan. 9.
