The Top 10.0 Things You Need to Know
1.0 - No. 22 Minnesota will return home to the Sports Pavilion to host No. 7 Nebraska in its annual Pink Meet on Saturday evening at the Sports Pavilion. The meet marks the first of three home weekends for the Gophers as they will host the Best of Minnesota - Always Dreaming meet on Feb. 22 and Senior Night against New Hampshire on Feb. 28. Competition is set to begin on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed live from the Pav on BTN Plus. 2.0 - Fans are encouraged to wear pink to help the Gophers raise awarness for breast cancer. The Maroon and Gold will don pink for the evening and meet promotions as well as giveaways will revolve around the pink theme. Pink t-shirts, 10.0 signs and pom poms will be given to fans during the meet. Post photographs during the meet on Twitter using the hashtag #AlwaysGolden to be part of fan photo album on Facebook following the meet.
3.0 - Junior Lindsay Mable has paced the Gophers this season by earning six consecutive all-around crowns and 14 individual event titles. During Minnesota's last meet on the road at Illinois, Mable outpaced the field of competition posting an all-around score of 39.575 to earn the coveted all-around title. Mable earned three individual event titles at the meet including a 9.900 on vault. 9.875 on floor exercise and 9.925 on balance beam which ties for her season-high set at Michigan State on Jan. 24. She has now earned three straight floor exercise titles en route to 14 individual titles on the season. After her impressive weekend for the Gophers, Mable earned her third Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors of 2015. Individually, Mable ranks 9th in the nation in terms of her all-around average while she sits in second place in the region behind Utah's Georgia DaBritz.
4.0 - No. 22 Minnesota moved up in GymInfo's National Top 25 Poll this week despite dropping a road decision to Illinois. The Maroon and Gold have an average score of 195.225 this season as they head into the final six regular meets of the season. Currently, Minnesota is ranked 21st on vault (48.967) while the squad moved up in the national event rankings on floor exercise (48.779) from 36th to 32nd, uneven bars (48.696) from 28th to 26th and balance beam (48.783) from 21st to 17th.
6.0 - The Gophers currently rank in a four-way tie for third place in the BIg Ten Conference after victories over the Spartans and Buckeyes and a loss to Illinois on the road. The Gophers earned their second conference win over Ohio State where they scored their second highest score of the season, 196.325. Minnesota's highest score was the weekend before at Michigan State where they recorded a season-high 196.875. Last weekend, the Gophers fell to 3-3 on the season after their road loss to Illinois. The Gophers earned three of four event titles on Sautrday evening and fell to Illinois by .400 of a point.
7.0 - The Gophers returned 9 gymnasts from 2014 including two-time All-American and Big Ten all-around Champion, Lindsay Mable, as well as Gopher standouts in seniors Jenny Covers and Cierra Tomson. Minnesota had a successful 2014 season where they won their second consecutive Big Ten regular season title and advanced to the NCAA Regional held at the University of Minnesota. Minnesota welcomed five new members to the family at the beginning of the academic year. Freshmen Abby DeMuse, Bailey Gardner, Ciara Gardner, Hannah Hitchcock and Rachel Rowland will make their regular season debut when the Gophers host Iowa State on Saturday. At the annual intrasquad meet, Gardner placed third in the all-around and DeMuse finished in a tie for second place on the bars (9.750) and fourth on floor (9.750).
8.0 - The Maroon and Gold will host six home meets during the 2015 season including the Big Ten Qualifier featuring Iowa, Michigan, Penn State and Rutgers on March 14. Last season, six Big Ten teams finished the 2014 season ranked in the top 25 teams in the country. Minnesota finished the season ranked 14th nationally. 9.0 - The back-to-back Big Ten Conference regular season champions were tabbed to place fifth in the Big Ten this season. Juniors Lindsay Mable and Madeline Hanley were named as gymnasts to watch this season. The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team earned the coveted top spot in the coaches' poll while No. 2 Nebraska and No. 3 Illinois round out the top three. Minnesota will match up with Maryland on Thursday. The Terrapins earned the seventh place spot in the preseason poll.
