Prelims Results
The first full day of competition at the 2015 Women's Swimming and Diving Big Ten Championships began this morning at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavillion with preliminary heats of the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, as well as one-meter diving.
Returning tonight to the Gophers in the Championship final of the 500 freestyle includes Samantha Harding and Kiera Janzen. Harding posted a 4:40.35 during prelims and is seeded fourth, while Janzen is seeded seventh after finishing with a time of 4:41.16.
Freshman Brooke Zeiger will swim in the consolation final of the 500 free, seeded ninth after posting a time of 4:42.34.
Jessica Plant, Brooke Lorentzen and Maddie Hoch will compete in the C final of the 500 freestyle. Plant is seeded first in the heat after posting a 4:44.75 during prelims. Lorentzen had a 4:47.21, Hoch 4:48.64.
Rookie Isabel Wyer won her heat of the 500 freestyle, and finishes 38th with a time of 4:51.23. Senior Christie Clarke finishes 72nd with a time of 5:02.17, dropping nearly four seconds off her seeded time.
Two Golden Gophers will head to the Championship final of the 200 IM after this mornings preliminaries. Kierra Smith is seeded fourth with a time of 1:58.69 and Tori Simenec will head into tonight's race seeded eighth with a time of 1:59.31.
Breanne Siwicki finished with a time of 2:03.49 for 46th place, freshman Rae Bullinger places 2:05.73 for 60th place and Ellen Bloom finishes in 75th place with a time of 2:08.07.
Senior Rebecca Weiland finished with a time of 22.07 this morning in the prelims of the 50 freestyle, and is seeded third heading into tonight's Championship final.
Lauren Votava will represent Minnesota in the consolation final of the 50 free after a 22.86 in prelims.
Sophomore Abigail Raatz will compete in tonight's 50 free C final. Raatz had a 22.93 in today's prelims.
Gophers Danielle Nack and Heidi Busack tied with a time of 23.06 for 25th place. Senior Blake Zeiger finished 28th with a time of 23.14. Allison Schumacher and Devin Ste. Marie also tied with a time of 23.30 for 43rd. Katelyn Holmquist finished with a time of 23.66 in today's 50 free prelims, placing 63rd. Senior Chloe Portela finishes 105th with a time of 25.67, while freshman Bridgette Grobe posted a 30.51 for 108th.
