MINNEAPOLIS - The No. 70 Minnesota women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to No. 46 Dartmouth and earned a 7-0 win over South Dakota State at the Baseline Tennis Center Sunday. The results moved the Gophers' 2015 record to 6-4. They are now 4-1 at home.

Dartmouth got the day started by sweeping the doubles competition. After pairings of Alexxis Kiven and Katherine Yau and Julia Schroeder and Akiko Okuda won at position Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, to secure the point, the 40th-ranked duo of Taylor Ng and Kristina Mathis finished a tight 7-5 win against Tereza Brichacova and Paula Rincon-Otero.

In singles action, the Big Green upped its lead to 2-0 with a Schroeder win at No. 6, but freshman Caroline Ryba got a point back for the Gophers with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2. Dartmouth clinched the win with victories at the No. 3 and No. 5 flights. Jacqueline Crawford then won at No. 4 and 82nd-ranked Ng came back from a one-set deficit against Brichacova.

Minnesota got off to a stronger start in its second match of the day.

Doubles tandems of Brichacova and Rincon-Otero, Jessika Mozia and Julia Courter and Aria Lambert and Kendall Heitzner won in doubles to give the Maroon and Gold and 1-0 lead.

Courter's win was the 50th of her career in doubles, individually.

The momentum carried over into singles play for the Gophers who won at all six positions. Lambert, who had a five-match win streak snapped earlier in the day, got back on track with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Minneapolis native Tacy Haws-Lay at No. 4. Courter then put the team on the cusp of victory with a straight-set win against Beatriz Souza at the No. 4 spot.

The win was clinched by Mozia at the No. 2 position. Mehvish Safdar then earned her first-career dual match singles win at the No. 6 position to make it 5-0. The shutout was completed when Kendall Heitzner completed her first dual-match singles win of the season at No. 5 and Ryba cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph in the top flight.

Ryba is now 7-1 on the spring and owns a 3-0 mark at the top position in the lineup.

The Gophers, who hadn't played at home since Jan. 18 prior to this weekend, continues a seven-match homestand next week when Iowa State, Marquette and Carleton visit the Baseline Tennis Center.
