Duensing Gets Ace, Gophers 13th at PR Classic

"It was cool when I realized that it went in," Duensing said. "Obviously I would have liked to have it come in a better round, but I'm not going to turn down a hole-in-one."
Mendez birdied his last two holes of the day to finish with an even-par 72 and even-par tournament score of 216. He has led the Gophers in all six tournaments this season, finishing in the top 20 each time.
Riley Johnson and Jon DuToit tied for 49th (+10), each carding a 73 in the third round. Duensing shot an 80 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 64th. Rúnar Arnorsson tied for 68th (+17).
"We had a lot of inconsistency this week," head coach John Carlson said. "We had some good, solid rounds, but even Jose made a few more bogeys than he would have liked."
Georgia won the tournament with a 12-under score of 852. Alabama's Dru Love and Virginia Tech's Scott Vincent shared medalist honors (-7).

Freshman Charlie Duensing made a hole-in-one on the Golden Gophers' final day at the Puerto Rico Classic. Minnesota finished 13th as a team, and Jose Mendez tied for 17th individually at Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande.
Duensing's first career ace came on the 178-yard 10th hole. He hit a 7-iron toward the left side of the green and did not actually see the ball roll into the cup.
