Sophomore Nick Orf is seeded 10th heading into tonight's 200 fly finals

Saturday Prelims Results

The final day of the 2015 Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships began this morning with preliminary races in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly.

Senior Carl Newenhouse will return tonight for Minnesota in the 200 backstroke. Newenhouse raced a 1:44.55 to be seeded 14th heading into the Championship final.

Chris Johnson qualified for the C final of the 200 back with a time of 1:45.02, while sophomore Jack Tribble finished 36th with a time of 1:48.03.

In the 100 freestyle, sophomore Daryl Turner will represent Minnesota in the B final. Turner will be seeded ninth after posting a 43.28 in prelims.

Paul Fair qualified for the C final of the 100 free, finishing with a time of 44.07. Ryan Miksch placed 30th with a 44.68, Jonothan Thielen went 44.91 for 32nd. Sophomore Ian Gordon finished 36th with a time of 45.01 and freshman Michael Nunan followed for 37th with a 45.03.

Jakub Maly dropped over four seconds from his seeded time in the 200 breaststroke to qualify for the Championship final with a time of 1:55.46, seeded fifth. Freshman Conner McHugh posted a 1:56.16 in the 200 breast prelims to qualify for the B final. He will be joined by sophomore Spencer Mattox, who finished with a time of 1:57.55 this morning.

Sophomore Nick Hatanaka qualified for the C final in the 200 breast with a time of 1:59.38. Eric Sande placed 25th with a 2:00.03.

Nick Orf will represent the Gophers in the B final of the 200 fly. Orf finished with a time of 1:46.27 to be seeded tenth heading into tonight's competition.

Seniors Brandon Hatanaka, Andrew Hartbarger and Alex Cisneros posted 200 fly times that qualified for the C final. Hatanaka had a 1:47.27, Hartbarger finished with a 1:47.65 and Cisneros posted a 1:49.99. Ben Bravence finished with a 2:00.00 to tie for 25th.

Platform diving prelims is underway in Iowa,each of Minnesota's six male divers are competing. Follow along with live stats here.The consolation finals will be contested shortly after. The 1650 free will begin at 4:15 p.m., with all but the last heat. Junior Logan Redondo and CJ Smith will compete for the Gophers in the event. Finals will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT, with the 400 free relay wrapping up the meet.
