Smith, Nack Selected For Conference Honors

ROSEMOUNT, Ill. - In response to the Golden Gophers' latests wins over Purdue and Northwestern, both Kierra Smith and Danielle Nack have collected weekly conference honors. Rookie Danielle Nack was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, while junior Kierra Smith was named Big Ten Co-Swimmer of the Week with Indiana's Brooklynn Snodgrass.
This honor marks the first of Nack's collegiate career. Throughout this weekend's Big Ten Triple Dual, Nack collected two first-place finishes, two second-place marks and a third-place finish. She finished first in the 200 medley relay (1:41.65) and 200 free relay (1:32.76), picked up second place in the 200 fly (2:00.62) and 100 fly (55.20), as well as claiming third in the 400 free relay (3:25.08). The last Big Ten Freshman of the Week for Minnesota was Brooke Zeiger on Nov. 25, 2014.
For the second week in a row and seventh time in her career, Smith has been named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week. The junior breaststroke swimmer had four first-place finishes in this past weekend's meet. She finished first in the 100 breast (1:02.49), 200 IM (2:03.02), 200 breast (2:12.68) and 200 medley relay (1:41.65). Her 100 and 200 breaststroke times were NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
