Gophers Pick Up Seven Wins in Tennessee

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The University of Minnesota women's rowing team picked up seven victories, which included a sweep of the competition on Saturday morning against Michigan State, Oklahoma and UCF, at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite over the weekend to open the 2015 season. Along with its sweep in the morning on Saturday, the Gophers closed out their first day of competition with wins in three of its four races against Alabama, Oklahoma and Tennessee in the afternoon session.
The Gopher's success was highlighted by the Gopher's First Varsity Eight boat on Saturday afternoon. With a time of 5:59.87, Minnesota beat out the Unversity of Oklahoma's time of 6:01.002.
"I thought we had great racing by all of our boats this weekend," head coach Wendy Davis said. "The team is realizing that we belong among the top teams in the nation. I am really pleased to race that well with just five days on the water."
The Gophers will look to build upon their success when they return to Knoxvillenext weekend to take on the Universtiy of Tennessee.
